CI Japanese is the best comprehensible input resource we have identified for Japanese. The platform provides a large, structured library of leveled video content, from superbeginner through advanced, with native speakers who use drawings, gestures, repetition, and visual storytelling to make Japanese understandable without translation or prior study. The superbeginner tier is especially approachable: pacing stays slow, language stays simple, and the format does real work for learners taking their first steps into Japanese input. Learners planning long-term immersion will also appreciate that a lifetime membership is available, avoiding the treadmill of recurring subscription fees. The main tradeoff is the free tier: only a limited selection of videos is available without paid access, so meaningful progression through the library will require a membership. For Japanese CI, CI Japanese is our recommendation.

Nihongo Jikan
Nihongo Jikan (にほんごのじかん) is Yuki Kimura’s comprehensible input platform for Japanese, launched after she left CI Japanese—our current recommendation. The site has a large leveled library (about 880 videos) with difficulty scores, hour tracking, and the same visual CI approach of gestures, drawings, and repetition from complete beginner through advanced. Yuki was the founding teacher on CI Japanese and produced a substantial share of that catalog, which is now being retired from the original site over a two-year transition. We are evaluating whether Nihongo Jikan already belongs in contention with CI Japanese, or whether the multi-teacher library there still holds the edge. Currently under evaluation.
