One resource. The best one.
For each language.

A curated list of the single best comprehensible input resource for every language where a high-quality option exists.

This is not an exhaustive directory. We deliberately keep this list short. If a language isn’t listed, it’s because we haven’t yet found a resource we can confidently recommend.

French

Dreaming French (opens in new tab)

Dreaming French is produced by the same team behind Dreaming Spanish, applying years of CI content creation experience to French from day one. The result is a library that launched with exceptionally high production quality: polished, well-paced, and structured across proficiency levels, with native French speakers delivering context-rich material designed to be understood through visual storytelling and natural speech rather than translation. The library is still growing, but what’s there is among the most professionally produced CI content available in any language.

Japanese

CI Japanese (opens in new tab)

CI Japanese is the best comprehensible input resource we have identified for Japanese. The platform provides a large, structured library of leveled video content, from superbeginner through advanced, with native speakers who use drawings, gestures, repetition, and visual storytelling to make Japanese understandable without translation or prior study. The superbeginner tier is especially approachable: pacing stays slow, language stays simple, and the format does real work for learners taking their first steps into Japanese input. Learners planning long-term immersion will also appreciate that a lifetime membership is available, avoiding the treadmill of recurring subscription fees. The main tradeoff is the free tier: only a limited selection of videos is available without paid access, so meaningful progression through the library will require a membership. For Japanese CI, CI Japanese is our recommendation.

Russian

Comprehensible Russian (opens in new tab)

Comprehensible Russian is the best comprehensible input resource we have identified for Russian. The project centers on a dedicated website and companion app that curate level-appropriate listening and viewing material for acquisition-based learning, including playlists organized by difficulty and options for private lessons. Much of the catalog is aggregated from several different YouTube channels and creators rather than a single in-house production pipeline, so pacing, filming style, and strictness of CI methodology can vary somewhat from video to video. That makes it less uniformly consistent than platforms built entirely around one studio model (for example Dreaming Spanish or Langiri). Even so, nothing we have seen rises to the level of a disqualifying weakness: the content is genuinely aimed at understandable input, the library is substantial, and for learners who want structured Russian CI in one place, Comprehensible Russian is currently the strongest option available. It is our recommendation for Russian.

Spanish

Dreaming Spanish (opens in new tab)

The project that brought comprehensible input to the mainstream. Dreaming Spanish, founded by Pablo Román, built the template that most modern CI content creators follow: a massive library of leveled video content, from superbeginner through advanced, delivered by native speakers using visual context and natural speech to make the language understandable without translation. Widely credited with demonstrating that acquisition-based methods can scale through online video.

Vietnamese

Langiri (opens in new tab)

Langiri is the leading comprehensible input resource for Vietnamese, a language that has long been underserved by quality acquisition-based learning materials. The platform provides a structured library of video content designed for natural language acquisition, organized across proficiency levels and delivered entirely by native Vietnamese speakers who use context, visual storytelling, and natural speech to make the language understandable from the very first video. Vietnamese presents unique challenges for learners. Its tonal system, unfamiliar phonology, and limited overlap with European languages make comprehensible input an especially effective approach, since learners build intuition for these features through sustained exposure rather than through rules that inevitably oversimplify. For anyone serious about acquiring Vietnamese, Langiri is our clear and confident recommendation.

Chinese

Dong Chinese, Lazy Chinese & Vidioma

We’re evaluating three comprehensible input resources for Mandarin. Dong Chinese is an app-based platform that combines leveled comprehensible media (videos, podcasts, songs) with study tools like character etymology and handwriting practice. Lazy Chinese takes a CI and TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) approach, with leveled video content from complete beginner through advanced, multiple native-speaking instructors, and availability as a podcast. Vidioma is an immersion-focused aggregator with thousands of level-tagged videos curated from independent YouTube CI creators, automatic time tracking, and content from new starter through advanced (the platform does not produce its own videos). Currently deciding which to recommend.

English

EnglishSponge

A comprehensible input platform for English with a structured library of 500+ videos spanning levels A0 through B2, delivered by native speakers in both American and British accents. Content is split between free and premium tiers, and the platform supplements its video library with companion podcast series. The breadth of accents covered within a single CI library is unusual and a useful feature for learners targeting a particular variety of English. Currently under evaluation.

Polish

LingoPut

A comprehensible input platform for Polish with native-speaker video content organized by level (from first steps through advanced), multiple presenters, and filters for difficulty and author. Some videos are free and some require a premium account. The catalog is still relatively small: on the order of 84 videos at the time of this writing, so long-term progression may feel limited compared to larger CI libraries. Worth evaluating for learners focused on Polish. Currently under evaluation.

Thai

ALJ World

A comprehensible input resource for Thai. Some of the video content feels dated compared to newer CI creators, but the library covers a range of topics and proficiency levels. Currently under evaluation.

Actually Understand Vietnamese

Actually Understand Vietnamese is comprehensible-input video tailored to Southern Vietnamese speech and pacing, organized on its own website. Focus and catalog size are different from Langiri (our current Vietnamese recommendation): we’re comparing production quality, level progression, and how well each serves learners aiming at the South versus a more general proficiency path. Currently under evaluation.
